The Department
The Learning Support base is a small but well formed couple of rooms situated on the first floor of the school. Our department is made up of five teachers and six auxiliaries. Many pupils work in the base for:
- tutorial programmes
- to catch up and get help with their homework
Our Aims
To support the learning of all pupils in the school where necessary.
Work with subject teachers to devise teaching strategies and materials appropriate to the needs of the pupils.
Offer long or short term tutorial support
To encourage staff, pupils and the wider community to understand and accept the various needs that learners have.
To make ourselves known and accessible to all pupils- some throughout their school career, and others from time to time.

Our garden
The department has it's own garden in front of the school. Mrs Calder takes groups of pupils out to work there all year round, although the pupils are always a lot keener when the sun is out! They have successfully grown many fruits and vegetables which are then used in the school kitchen. The flowers are the envy of many garden owners in the surrounding area.
Recycling
The department has always been involved with recycling in the school. We currently recycle paper and cardboard. Shown on the left is the garden compost bin which provides the garden with fresh compost. Pupils help with this by collecting compost "buckets" from staff bases and the staffroom.
